What is Happening OUTside Today in the World is ... maybe this won't help today, but King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia is giving a $10 billion endowment tot eh King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) to solve some of the larger problems facing the planet.

This iconic photo by John Filo, who later worked here at the Courier-Post, won a Pulitzer Prize for this stunning photo of Mary Ann Vecchio, a 14-year-old rnaway, kneeling over Jeffrey Miller after he was shot dead by the Ohio National Guard.

What Happened OUTside on this Day is ... on May 4 - 40 years ago today - in 1970 the Ohio National Guardsmen opened fire on students during an anti-Vietnam war protest at Kent State University. Four students were killed and nine others were wounded.

The Word of the Day is ... VIVFY - to endue with life; to make alive; to animate - as in after the shooting, the students at Kent State went on to vivfy the campus under the spotlight of a sympathetic national stare.

The Wisdom of the Day comes via Coach Skip Werley:

There is no passion to be found playing small – in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.” - Nelson Mandela

The Who is . . . Nelson Mandela is the former prisoner than President of South Africa served 27 years in prison, many on isolated Robben Island with other politcal prisoners .
